For the last several months there has been an increase in mischief and vandalism in Oakhurst Park. Irrigation heads have been broken, over 30 white bows of gratitude placed on Oakhurst Park trees honoring first responders were taken, and in the past couple of weeks, vandalism, or at least, extremely rough play at the park resulted in damage to one of the toucans. The toucan’s spring was broken and the steel footrest was bent by what appears to be rough usage by multiple large teenagers or adults. Small children could not cause this degree of damage.
FOOP has been working with the Park Department toward a solution and the damaged toucan was removed from the Oakhurst Park this afternoon. Restoration and repair details will be forthcoming as soon as available in the upcoming FOOP Scoop newsletter. If you observe vandalism occurring in Oakhurst Park – please call 911. |
