FOOP Backs the Blue

July 7,  2016 was a tragic day for law enforcement in our country.  In an unspeakable ambush, five Dallas Police Officers lost their lives. Three days later, on July 10, 2016, FRIENDS OF OAKHURST PARK (FOOP) placed blue ribbons in Oakhurst Park; on the Oakhurst neighborhood entrance columns;  and on homes throughout the neighborhood to honor the fallen Dallas Police Officers - and to equally honor Fort Worth Police Officers and the men and women of law enforcement who live in Oakhurst.

​The loss of life in Dallas was both profound and palatable and with respect, FRIENDS OF OAKHURST PARK (FOOP) shared their grief and paid tribute to their service.

Again, on October 6, 2016, in the spirit of unity and as part of "FOOP’s Blue Ribbon Salute” to police officers who live in Oakhurst or have family members who live in Oakhurst, FOOP donated 200 “Back the Blue – Fort Worth Police Department” license plate holders to Oakhurst Patrol/Code Blue to distribute at its 2016 ONA Police, Fire, & First Responders Appreciation Dinner.  

The license plate holders were donated in honor of FOOP Board members Sandra Whittenberg & Robin Barron. Both Sandra and Robin are long-time residents of Oakhurst and have family members who wear “Blue".  Sandra's son is a police officer and Robin's husband is a FWPD detective.
